Fabric Data Warehouse just got an important upgrade: Data-tier Application Framework (DacFx). For teams working with Git integration, deployment pipelines, and Warehouse ALM, DacFx could make everyday development a lot smoother.
Cleaner Changes, Better Deployments
DacFx is the framework Fabric uses to understand warehouse schemas, compare changes, and determine what needs to happen when those changes move between environments. With the latest update, that process is getting a refresh across Git integration, deployment pipelines, and Warehouse item definitions.
For Git-connected warehouses, schema extraction is now DacFx-based and incremental. This means smaller, cleaner diffs when changes are made. Instead of sorting through noise to find the one thing that actually changed, developers should have a much clearer picture of what is being committed.
Deployment pipelines receive a similar improvement. The Compare and Deploy experiences now use the updated DacFx model to generate deployment plans, with configuration defaults designed for Fabric. That means a more predictable path from development to deployment, with less manual cleanup along the way.

The Warehouse item definition is also moving from version 1.0 to version 2.0 for Git-connected warehouses. The update introduces a newer SQL project SDK, changes to the .sharedqueries folder structure, and cleaner object extraction. Constraints, identity columns, and clustering definitions should produce fewer unnecessary differences, while columns using the warehouse’s default collation are less likely to show up as misleading changes.
What to Know Before You Update
DacFx promises cleaner commits, more intelligent deployments, and more predictable pipeline comparisons. There are a few documented limitations, including some scenarios involving self-references, cross-warehouse column ambiguity, and schema capitalization. These documentations are called out and have workarounds; teams should review those before making the switch. Furthermore, the update to DacFx isn’t automatic. Git-connected workspaces will alert you to an available system update that can be undertaken on your timeline. You can also download it here.

DacFx sits underneath some of the tools teams use every day to develop, version, and deploy Fabric Warehouses. Making those comparisons cleaner and deployment plans more predictable means less noise in the development process.
